Reflection

As Jack Welch says in his latest book, Winning: "Work-life balance is a swap -- a deal you've made with yourself about what you're going to keep and what you give up."

These are his recommended best practices:

  • "Keep your head in whatever game you're at."
  • "Have the mettle to say no to requests and demands outside your chosen work-life balance plan."

Consider

  • Happiness: Does it matter how much time you spend at work, as long as you love what you're doing?
  • A key trait of any successful work-life juggler is "switching," or fully devoting your attention to the activity at hand.
  • Learn to listen to internal cues that signify imbalance, like tension or trouble sleeping.
