John Del Cecato

John Del Cecato is Vice President and Director of the New York City office. He first worked with David Axelrod during the 1998 Iowa gubernatorial race, and then again on the 2001 New York City mayoral campaign.

Most recently, Del Cecato served as Communications Director for Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer's mayoral campaign in New York City. Del Cecato helped Ferrer vault from a last-place showing in early polls to a first-place finish in the postponed primary election. In the Democratic runoff, Ferrer moved from 11 points down to finish less than two points behind on Election Day.

Prior to moving to New York, Del Cecato was Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. In that capacity, he worked with targeted Democratic campaigns, helped plot the House Democrats' overall communications strategy, and served as the day-to-day voice for House Democrats political operation.

Before he started at the DCCC, Del Cecato was Communications Director for the Iowa Democratic Party. In addition to working on Iowa's congressional and state legislative races, he helped elect Tom Vilsack as Iowa's first Democratic governor in 32 years.

Del Cecato also served as Press Secretary to Congressman Jim McGovern of Massachusetts and as Communications Director for the Wiggins for Congress campaign in Georgia's Eighth Congressional District.

Del Cecato got his start in Washington on the staff of Congressman Richard Gephardt – serving in the House Democratic Leader's Office, on the House Democratic Policy Committee, and as part of Gephardt's personal staff at the Democratic National Convention.

Del Cecato has conducted numerous campaign training sessions, including seminars sponsored by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Midwest Grassroots Leadership Academy. He has guest lectured on the political process at the University of Virginia's Center for Governmental Studies, George Washington University's Campaign Finance Institute, and Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. Del Cecato has appeared on FOX News, C-SPAN, and CNN's Inside Politics, and served as a weekly contributor to New York One's campaign roundtable.

Del Cecato graduated with honors from Northwestern University, where he majored in political science and communications studies. He was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, attended junior high and high school in St. Louis, Missouri, and currently resides in New York City.
